If you like to indulge your pet cat with goodies and treats, and they savor treat time, then it is good to have different options for your cats. Here are three homemade cat treat recipe ideas that you can try making at home for your kitty. Feel free to use the best quality, organic ingredients, and yet spend much less than you would on ready-made branded cat treats. You can then feed these to your furry friend with love, knowing, precisely what went into these treats. Go ahead, pamper them.

Frozen fish paste

  • Buy a few cans of sustainably fished (unsalted) mackerel or tuna.
  • Grind contents of the tin cans into a smooth paste in a mixer along with the water it came in.
  • Pour the pureed fish paste into old icing cones (ones that you do not use for your pastries anymore), and fill pretty, fun-shaped silicone ice trays.
  • Freeze the ice trays, and voila, your frozen fish treat is ready.
  • Make in a large batch and store these in Ziploc bags in your freezer for a couple of months.
  • You can pamper your cat with delicious homemade frozen fish treats often.

Baked whole wheat crackers

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

In a food processor, mix the following:

  • One cup oats
  • One cup wheat flour
  • 200 gms catnip
  • Two eggs
  • Two cups pureed spinach
  • Two tablespoons olive oil
  • Two 5-ounce cans of tuna or salmon.

Recipe:

  • Remove from the jar and make this mixture into a pliable dough ball.
  • Use a rolling pin and flatten the ball to make a ¼ inch thick circle.
  • Place on a lined baking sheet and with a butter knife make criss-cross lines on the flattened dough. Do not cut them fully yet.
  • Microwave for about 25 minutes, or until it turns crisp.
  • Let it cool, and break the crackers up with your hands.
  • Store in an airtight jar in the fridge, and enjoy your cats go crazy over these mouthwatering treats.

You can try this recipe with the Wild Planet Wild Albacore Tuna that come in 5 oz. cans. They are delicious and also canned in an unsalted variety. Else, the Alaskan Wild Pink Salmon (no added salt) 5 oz. cans from Safe Catch is a tasty option too.

Cheese strip treats

  • One cup grated cheddar cheese
  • One cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Two cups whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • ½ cup grated carrot
  • ½ cup pureed pumpkin
  • One tablespoon coconut oil
  • Water as needed

Recipe:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Line a cookie sheet and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients and knead into a smooth dough. Add water little by little if the preparation is too thick or dry.
  • Knead into balls, roll into ¼ inch rounds, and place on the baking sheet.
  • Cut into one-inch strips and bake for 25 minutes or until these become crisp.
  • Remove from oven, let cool down, and store in an airtight jar in the fridge.
  • Your cat will come running and keep purring with excitement for these tasty, cheesy treats.
  • Ideally, if the oats, wheat flour, spinach, coconut oil, and olive oil are all organic produce, and the cheese and eggs are from an organic and free-range source, then all these would not only be good-tasting treats, but they would also be very healthy.
